Do you prefer Mathematics or English ?
I have been teaching now for over five years and have covered a really broad range of subjects in that time.
It has become more and more apparent to me that students always tend to favour either English or Mathematics and that extra tuition to bring their less favoured subject up to the same standard often fails.
Of course there are always a very small number of exceptionally able students who when given extra coaching in their less favoured topic will eventually master it to the same degree as their favoured subject. However, even these individuals will admit that it took a great deal of time and concentration to enable them to master it.
I believe that this would make an excellent dissertation topic for anyone who is studying a degree in a subject that this would be relevant to. I only wish that it had been suitable when I was searching for a dissertation topic for my own degree.
Of course this doesn't mean that having identified your preferred subject you should just give up trying with the other one. However, sometimes when you acknowledge what the issue is it can help you to work around it.
