Changing Times - Changing Attitudes
As I was born in yorkshire I have always confessed to being thrifty and trying to make what I have go a long way. Recently this was seen as being very unfashionable and totally against the newer "throw away" lifestyle of many including celebrities. This has never bothered me. Don't get me wrong I do like fashion and nice things, but am not prepared to pay through the nose to try and look like a celebrity, when after all the photos and pictures of that celebrity are probably fake anyway and all their defects have been airbrushed away. I have always been a fan of shopping in charity shops where some fantastic fashions and bargains can often be found. I have bought many brand new items in such shops - still with the tags in place from designer stores, where others obviously purchased the item at full price then decided they just didn't like it or didn't want it and couldn't be bothered to take it back. I think my best bargain was a designer leather jacket which had never been worn as the tags were still on it and I paid the huge sum of £8 for it ! Now that the current financial situation is starting to bite perhaps others should follow this lead. There are people who give their unwanted items away - why not check out your local free cycle website to see whats on offer locally. Or you can get together with a group of like minded friends and swap childrens clothes (or even your clothes !) My friends and I have always recycled out hardly worn kids clothes by passing them to each other when they no longer fit our own kids but would fit those of a friend. That way everyone gets something new but it doesn't cost anyone a penny. There are loads of ways to save money if you just give it a few minutes thought. These are only a few of my ideas, I'll probably write down some more on here very soon. If this helps anyone in a very small way then it will have been worth it. |
