Attending a Franchise Show
By Glenda Hayes
I have recently returned from holding a stand at a local Franchise show. This was a first for me and I wanted to give it a try to see if it was any help in promoting my business. My business is not a franchise, but when I described it to the organiser of the show he said that it would be equally relevant and that many of the visitors may well be interested. I would actually describe myself as a network marketer who is involved in direct sales. Any way I decided to give the show a try but as I'd not even attended a show like this as a visitor I was a little bit nervous. On arrival I made sure that I found my space quickly and then started setting up my stand. I had been a late booker for the event so wasn't expecting to have a very good position but I was pleasantly surprised to find I was very close to the area where the presentations were to be held. This meant that most visitors would have to pass my stand if they were interested in listening to any of the presenters. There were four other stands close by though only one of them was promoting anything vaguely similar to my stand. Again I was lucky as the organisers then decided that one of the staircases leading to another area of the building should really be blocked off as visitors should not be accessing the other areas. I was located right next to the stairs in question so this meant that I gained some extra space, an extra table, and also some display areas that would not have been included in my original booking. As I had brought stock along as well as all my recruitment information this was great as it meant I could really lay it out well and visitors would be able to see both the stock and the business opportunity depending on which they were most interested in. The time had flown by and it was time for the event to begin. All trace of nerves had disappeared by now as so many small things seemed to have worked in my favour. The first evening there was a slow but steady stream of visitors. This was nice for me as it gave me chance to take my time and explain everything in detail to those who were interested. The following day there were more speakers listed and the visitor numbers were definately higher. By now it didn't matter as I'd really gained in confidence and was very happy to talk to anyone who came along. The best part was that towards the end of the afternoon I was asked to join a group of other speakers and to promote my business to those who had attended their talks. This worked really well for me and after this session my stand was really buzzing with visitors who were all very keen to find out more about the business and how it could work for them. So for anyone contemplating this kind of thing for the first time I would say a definate - give it a go ! After all what do you have to lose. I could have let my nerves get the better of me and turned down the opportunity, but I didn't and I'm so pleased that I didn't. It is still early days yet and I have yet to see the results of my labours yet I do feel very positive about the whole thing. If nothing else then my orders are likely to increase, ideally it would be good if I'd managed to find a few other like minded people who want to try this for themselves. Only time will tell. For me personally its given me a good confidence boost which I'm sure will last for a good while yet. I'm already on the look out for the next potential event like this as I'd quite like to make it a regular thing. |
